"Cariñena Blanca is finally being considered as a grape to be allowed by the Priorat appellation thanks to the Nin-Ortiz family, who keeps producing their 2019 Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca with the obsession to have a white Priorat that keeps good acidity and is not heavy. So, they used plant material from 20 plants they found in the old vineyards to graft 100 plants in their Planetes property, and after the first trials, they regrafted another 3,000 vines. The wine is 13.15% alcohol and has a pH of 3.2 even in a warm year like 2019, when they picked the grapes during the first half of September. The clusters were pressed and left to macerate with the skins for 24 hours and the juice let to settle and put to ferment in 300-liter oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, a slow fermentation of between 40 and up to 180 days. The wine matured for nine months. The warm vintage made the grapes ripen properly, as Cariñena Blanca has difficulties ripening (this is the first time the wine is over 13%), and it has more flavors and aromas. It also has a little more volume and is textured and richer, with deep flavors while keeping the freshness and acidity and with a salty touch in the finish. 3,560 bottles were filled in June 2020."
